David Beckham and Real Madrid are 2006/2007 La Liga Champion

David Beckham has ended his career at Real Madrid in fine fashion. Real Madrid came back from 0-1 down to beat Mallorca 3-1 and win the 2006/2007 La Liga (Spanish League) Title.

Although Beckham was declared fit for the game, he was a bit tentative in some of his tackles and he did not appear fully fit. He put in some fine crosses and had a freekick hit the crossbar. Capello sensed he was not giving his all and substituted him with Antonio Reyes. That move proved to be a brilliant one!

Reyes scored the equalising goal in the 68th minute and goal number 3 in the 83rd minute. The other goal was an own goal by Mallorca's Miguel Moya resulting from a powerful header by Mahamadou Diarra.

David Beckham and Ruud van Nistelrooy - who was substituted in the 33rd minute - watched from the bench as their team dominated Mallorca and scored 3 goals within 16 minutes.

After the first half it appeared as if Barcelona would win their 3rd consecutive title. Real Madrid was losing 0-1 and Barcelona was crushing Gimnastic de Tarragona 3-0. However, Real Madrid displayed another piece of "last-minute" heroics to earn their first La Liga title since 2003.
